Isle of Wight NHS Trust are recruiting for a Band 7 Senior Catering and Commercial Services Manager to join their highly skilled team. Based at the heart of the Island, with 266 beds and handling around 27,000 admissions each year, St Mary’s Hospital in Newport is our main base for delivering acute services for the Island’s population. Services include the Emergency Department (A&E), the Urgent Treatment Centre by referral only, Emergency medicine and surgery, planned surgery, intensive care, comprehensive maternity, Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and paediatric services with 986 births last year. As part of the Single Corporate Service, this role is a designated site-based role however the post holder will be part of the Corporate Service team which provides a service across both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. As the single corporate service will be delivered across both organisations, individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. The frequency and arrangements will be discussed on an individual basis and the staff mobility local agreement will apply. For our leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, they will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally. Job Purpose The postholder will have responsibility for the safe, legal, and effective delivery of all Catering Services operated within the Trust, including both services and goods provided by the in-house team, and by outsourced suppliers and partners.The postholder shall manage the Trust’s key Catering services provided by third parties, including the Costa contract, and all supply contracts.The postholder shall directly manage the in-house service, and be responsible for the quality of the service, its legislative compliance, and its financial efficiency.The postholder will deputise for the Head of Facilities, jointly with the Cleaning and Linen Services Manager, and work closely with these two postholders to provide strategic leadership to the Facilities Services in the Trust. In particular, the postholder will Deputise for the Head of Facilities at project meetings, finance meetings, Trust Boards and Committees, and other meetings and events as required by the Head of Facilities.Manage the in-house Catering Service, including the Operational Catering Manager (In-House).Manage the Trust’s Costa contract, holding regular monthly Performance Meetings and maintaining Notes and Actions of these to ensure ongoing contractual compliance and Value for Money for the Trust.Manage commercial contracts with other suppliers, including the main provisions suppliers, holding regular Performance Meetings and maintaining Notes and Actions of these to ensure ongoing contractual compliance and Value for Money for the Trust.Set up and chair a senior-level Catering Forum, meeting at least bi-monthly, to develop and implement service improvements and keep stakeholders apprised of progress.Develop continuous improvement programmes for the Catering Services.Be responsible for financial management of the Services, holding Monthly meetings with the Operational Catering Manager, the Head of Facilities, and the Management Accountant for this purpose.Develop and be responsible for implementation of Cost Improvement initiatives in line with directorate targets.Be responsible for the Capital Equipment Replacement Programme for the Catering Department.Develop a strategic Space Utilisation plan for the Catering Department, working closely with Estate Management colleagues.Participating in Capital Projects which have an implication for Catering Services.Develop a strategic Catering Service plan to plan service delivery over the long term.Develop a written Service Specification. Requirements Management qualification e.g., BIFM Level 4, NVQ Level 4, ILM Level 4, or equivalent experience.Professional degree level qualification or similar experience.Experience and knowledge of budgetary management.Experience of working in a Facilities environment at Band 5 manager level or higher.Previous NHS or similar organisation experience.Previous experience dealing with complaints.Experience of dealing with challenging behaviour.Project management experience.Significant previous experience of managing staff.Good computer skills to include use of Microsoft Office.Able to work well under pressure.Ability to challenge when required.Knowledge of PLACE (Patient Led Assessment of the Care of the Environment).A sound understanding of clinical governance, risk management and health and safety principles.Knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Regulations, COSHH and Environmental Health legislation.Knowledge of infection control requirements in the NHS and staff training requirements.Emotionally resilient.
